Il Complesso San Michele non è solo un esempio di rigenerazione urbana, ma anche un laboratorio dove cultura, impresa e sociale convivono in un equilibrio raro e prezioso. Un ponte concreto tra profit e non profit, capace
di generare valore economico, impatto sociale e bellezza.
Il progetto di recupero e valorizzazione è nato da un’idea chiara: coinvolgere fin da subito la comunità. Più di 500 cittadini, insieme a scuole, università, imprese, associazioni e professionisti, hanno partecipato a un processo di ascolto e co-progettazione.
Il risultato?
Spazi multifunzionali pensati per accogliere attività imprenditoriali con una forte vocazione sociale e
culturale.
Oggi, tra le mura storiche del San Michele, trovano casa coworking per start-up culturali, associazioni, imprese sociali e digitali. Si organizzano eventi, laboratori e progetti di orientamento al lavoro. Ma il Complesso San Michele è anche – e sempre più – un centro culturale di riferimento. Qui è stata esposta, per la prima volta nella storia di Salerno, un’opera di Caravaggio. Anche performance e una programmazione culturale che parla tanto al pubblico locale quanto a quello nazionale; e infine mostre d’arte contemporanea come Restart, proprio qui ,infatti, dimora l’opera di Paolo Bini, uno degli
artisti che hanno preso parte a questa iniziativa.
A rendere possibile tutto questo è un modello gestionale innovativo, capace di tenere insieme pubblico e privato, cultura e impresa. Alla base c’è l’impegno della Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio Salernitana, proprietaria del Complesso, che ha accompagnato ogni fase del progetto e garantito una visione coerente con l’interesse collettivo. Un modello che dimostra come cultura, economia e inclusione possano camminare insieme e portare nuova energia al cuore della città.

The Saint Michael’s Complex is not only an example of urban regeneration, but also a hub where culture, enterprise, and social engagement coexist in a rare and precious balance. It acts as a tangible bridge between profit and non-profit, able to generate economic growth, social impact, and beauty.
The restoration and development project comes from a clear aim: to involve the community from the very beginning. More than 500 citizens—together with schools, universities, businesses, associations, and professionals—took part in a process of communication and co-design. Multifunctional spaces designed to host entrepreneurial activities with a strong social and cultural vocation is the result. You’ll find coworking spaces for cultural start-ups, associations, social and digital enterprises. The complex also hosts events, workshops, and career guidance projects.
The Complex has also become—and is increasingly becoming—a cultural landmark. For the first time in history of Salerno, a masterpiece by Caravaggio was exhibited. The venue also welcomes performances and cultural programs in a constant dialogue with both local and national audience. It is also an attractive showroom for contemporary art exhibitions such as Restart, which features works like that by Paolo Bini, one of the artists who took part in the initiative.
All this has been possible thanks to an innovative management model that unites the public and private fields, culture and business.
